Gantry Crane Types and Matters Needing Attention When Using Gantry Cranes?

  • Ordinary gantry crane

This kind of crane adopts types of box and truss structures in most cases and is widely used. It can handle various pieces and bulk materials, with a lifting capacity of less than 100 tons and a span of 4 to 39 meters. Ordinary gantry cranes with grabs work at a higher level. Ordinary gantry cranes mainly refer to hook, grab, electromagnetic and hoist gantry cranes, and semi-gantry cranes.

  • Hydropower station gantry crane

It is mainly used for hoisting, opening, and closing gates, and can also be used for installation operations. The lifting capacity is 80-500 tons, the span is small, 8-16 meters, and the lifting speed is low, 1-5 meters per minute. Although this kind of crane is not often hoisted, once it is used, the work is very heavy, so the work level should be appropriately improved.

  • Shipbuilding gantry crane

It is used to assemble the hull on the slipway, and there are always two lifting trolleys: one has two main hooks, which run on the track of the upper flange of the bridge; the other has a main hook and an auxiliary hook, which are on the lower flange of the bridge. Runs on rails for flipping and hoisting large hull sections. The lifting weight is generally 100-1500 tons; the span is 185 meters; the lifting speed is 2-15 m/min, and the fretting speed is 0.1-0.5 m/min.

Gantry crane is a type of large and medium-sized lifting equipment. The load-bearing beam and vertical rod structure is in the shape of a "gate", which moves in advance on the track and has a large lifting capacity. At present, there are mainly two types of lifting equipment, such as shipyards and container yards, which are railway container cranes (RMG) and rubber-tyred container cranes. Gantry cranes, namely rail container gantry cranes, have the advantages of green environmental protection, high reliability, large lifting capacity, small maintenance labor, and easy maintenance of the actual operation of automation technology. But its big disadvantage is that it is not easy to change the geographical location.

Dangers are caused by overloading gantry cranes: excessive gravity caused by overloading gantry cranes can cause galvanized steel wire ropes to break, drive system components to be damaged, and motors to be damaged. The brakes cann't hold due to insufficient driving force, and a major accident occurred. Excessive work is very detrimental to the structure of the gantry crane. The typical situation is that the main beam is deflected, the upper baffle and the web are cracked and de-welded, and the safety factor of the gantry crane is seriously damaged.

Gantry cranes shall not be changed due to new installation of safety devices to replacement of equipment. The galvanized steel wire ropes of gantry cranes shall not be used as grounding cables for electric welding. All characteristics of mechanical equipment and electrical components shall not be changed. Don't use non-original parts or accessories not being recommended by the manufacturer to replace damaged or commonly faulty parts.
